Clear summaries of current work in restoration ecology, coastal opinion research, oil spill ecotoxicology, plastics, seafood sustainability, environmental justice, and conservation technology.
Nautical modern rebuild underway
Coastal science, restoration ecology, conservation technology, service learning, and field-tested natural history are getting a cleaner, faster, more useful online home.
I have pulled down most of my site and am overhauling/experimenting with it over the next 10 days or so. I will have my new and improved website back up by late July.
What is being rebuilt
The new Pirate Lab site is being redesigned as a professional, accessible, and media-ready hub for research, teaching, publications, field updates, and sabbatical-era experiments.
Clear summaries of current work in restoration ecology, coastal opinion research, oil spill ecotoxicology, plastics, seafood sustainability, environmental justice, and conservation technology.
Cleaner pathways into service-learning courses, student research, New Orleans field work, coastal monitoring, and experiential environmental science at CSU Channel Islands.
Better contact information, downloadable images, press background, project descriptions, and context for journalists, collaborators, prospective students, and community partners.
Renovation map
The goal is to keep the useful long-running blog and field archive while replacing older broken page structures with a more coherent single-author/lab site. The redesigned version will be easier to maintain in WordPress, faster to load, and more consistent with current accessibility expectations.
Build status
This temporary page will remain simple while the full site is rebuilt behind the scenes.
Replace legacy page clutter with a clear WordPress-editable information architecture.
Update biography, research summaries, media assets, teaching links, and publication pathways.
Test mobile layouts, keyboard navigation, contrast, reduced motion, and image performance.
Bring back the larger site with a more polished design and a lower-maintenance editing workflow.
Pirate Lab snapshot
Pirate Lab is the research and teaching home of Dr. Sean Anderson at California State University Channel Islands, with work spanning coastal systems, restoration ecology, environmental monitoring, community-engaged field science, conservation robotics, and the human dimensions of natural resource management.
Monitoring, management, and public perception of beaches, estuaries, fisheries, oil spills, microplastics, and sea-level-rise adaptation across the California coast and beyond.
Long-term field projects in wetland, riparian, dune, reef, grassland, shrubland, woodland, and bottomland hardwood forest systems.
Applied undergraduate research, service learning, field courses, student-centered science communication, and community partnerships from southern California to coastal Louisiana.
Contact while the site is down
The main site is being rebuilt, but professional and media inquiries can still be directed to Dr. Sean Anderson through CSU Channel Islands contact channels.
